The invaluable benefits of art therapy in nursing homes
We’re proud to be able to offer our residents regular access to multiple forms of group therapy. One of our most effective, not to mention popular, is art.
As fun as creating art can be, we don’t offer mere classes: our art therapy sessions are run by licensed therapists who use them to help residents achieve specific goals based on their emotional, cognitive, physical, and social needs.
Our sessions help residents to:
- Improve memory retention and ease dementia symptoms
- Improve cognitive function and communication
- Improve fine motor skills
- Improve emotional wellbeing
Art therapy for aged care residents with dementia
Art therapy is an effective way to improve neuroplasticity in older people and has proven indispensable in helping our affected residents manage the complex emotions that come with cognitive decline.
The perfect therapy for all mobility levels
Painting, drawing, clay sculpting, collage — our art therapies have low physical demands yet encourage residents to hone their focus and precision.

Frequently asked questions
We’ll answer your questions when you come down for a tour. In the meantime, here are answers to some of the more common ones we get.
Our art therapy classes use low-impact disciplines to ensure every resident can attend. We commonly use:
- Painting, including finger painting
- Drawing
- Soft-clay sculpting
- Collage-making
Numerous studies have shown that art therapies have significant benefits for older people. We’ve helped numerous residents achieve breakthroughs and remain active and emotionally healthy through our art therapy classes.
It may be that, for one reason or another, our art therapy classes are impossible for you to attend. Or you may find that sessions don’t deliver the relief you need. That’s normal — not all therapies work for all people.
We offer several other types of therapies that you may find more useful. Our therapists will create a bespoke treatment plan just for you, and they’ll make adjustments as needed.
