A New Chapter Rooted in Family and Independence

Ida moved into Oxa Care on August 27, 2024. Born in Trieste, Italy, she migrated to Australia in 1957. Today, she is a proud mother of 4, grandmother to 12, and great-grandmother to 15.

A Life Built on Family, Learning, and Hard Work

Throughout her working life, Ida took on various roles, including factory work, cleaning, and even working in a chocolate factory. However, her passion for education led her to become a teacher’s aide, teaching English and Italian cooking classes at a community house. One of her proudest achievements was earning a Diploma in Social Science at the age of 57, proving that learning and growth have no age limit.

A Place That Feels Like Home

When it came time to transition into residential aged care, Ida and her family wanted a place where she could maintain her independence while staying close to her husband, Roberto, who is also a resident at Oxa Care.

  • Stays connected with family in Australia and Italy.
  • Maintains her independence while receiving support.
  • Lives near her husband, Roberto, in a welcoming community.

Embracing Independence and an Active Lifestyle

Ida has seamlessly settled into life at Oxa Care, maintaining her independence while engaging in activities that keep her mind and body active. She enjoys arts and crafts programs, coffee and chat afternoons, and organised lunches, where she connects with fellow residents. A lover of learning, she continues to challenge herself through new experiences and meaningful conversations.

Staying physically active is important to Ida, and she participates in the exercise program at Oxa Care. She also drives herself to hydrotherapy sessions two to three times a week, proving that age is no barrier to maintaining an active lifestyle. With a fulfilling routine and a supportive environment, Ida continues to enjoy each day confidently and enthusiastically.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS
“I am an independent woman and here at Oxa Care they have respected my wishes. I am able to continue my previous activities as when I was living at home; I can drive my car and go to the hydrotherapy pool 3 times a week, do my shopping and visit my friends and family. There is a range of activities offered and the activity staff keeps me busy which I very much enjoy. This is a beautiful and homely aged care with the staff and my other friends.”
