Aged care exercise programs

Fortify your body and mind with tailored exercise classes

Consistent and challenging exercise sessions are critical for our residents’ physical, emotional and cognitive well-being. At our residential aged care facility, you’ll enjoy individual and group exercise classes tailored to your mobility levels and therapy needs.

The benefits of developing and fortifying physical function

Exercise is not purely the domain of the young. Older adults exercise, too, and need it just as much. Our residents have a diverse range of abilities, but we gladly tailor our physical activities to suit each individual’s needs and comfort levels.

  • High-mobility cardio and strength training keep the body strong and the mind engaged.
  • Low-mobility physical activity improves mobility and alleviates mental and physical stress.
  • Exercise builds confidence and independence, while exercise groups encourage socialisation.

Hear from our residents and family members
Dad is in Oxa Care and I can’t speak highly enough of the staff who look after him. The facility is like a 5-star hotel with plenty of activities and large recreational areas with bright decor. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Frequently asked questions

We’ve answered some of the common questions we get about our aged-care exercise programs. Please do contact us if you have any other concerns.

Are exercise programs safe for aged care residents?

Nursing home exercise programs are safe when supervised by a qualified professional with experience in aged care environments. It is also essential that the exercises are tailored to match the abilities of the residents.

What exercise programs do you have for your residents?

We offer several exercise programs to fulfil our residents’ diverse physical needs. At Oxa Care, you can expect:

  • Strength training
  • Gentle weight training
  • Cardio
  • Mobility training
  • Yoga and stretching
  • Tai Chi

How we tailor your exercise program for you

Our exercise programs aim to help you improve your cardiovascular strength, muscle strength, flexibility and balance. Depending on your age or comorbidities, you may be uncomfortable with, or even unable to perform, certain exercises. That’s why we offer both active and passive exercise programs for our aged care residents.

Active exercises (like jogging or weight training) stress major muscle groups and your cardiovascular system. Passive exercises (like seated or rehabilitation exercises) work individual muscles or small groupings, and are much less strenuous. Either way, a moderate amount of physical activity offers many health benefits, and we’ll work with you to find your comfort level.
