Aged care speech therapy

Manage any speech or voice disorder with speech therapy

Strokes, dementia, Parkinson’s — our residents live with several conditions that limit their ability to communicate. Our aged care speech pathologists provide personalised treatments to manage or recover from whatever communication disorder you’re struggling with.

The benefits of speech pathology in aged care

Speech pathology is actually quite a broad therapy. Some patients struggle with communication difficulties caused by hearing loss. Others struggle against the weakening of their mouth and throat, especially as the result of strokes, motor neuron disease, or even palliative illnesses. The effects of these conditions and what we need to do to alleviate them differ from patient to patient.

At Oxa Care, we develop client-tailored speech therapies to improve your quality of life as best as possible.

  • Voice therapy can improve and support communication
  • Muscle-strengthening exercises can alleviate chewing and swallowing difficulties
  • Speech pathology can significantly boost morale and emotional well-being

Hear from our residents and family members
"What can I say about this place, very beautiful, hotel like residential place. I recently booked one of their dining rooms to celebrate an occasion with my mother, and we had a great time. The room was all equipped to ensure all guests were happy."

Why live at Oxa Care?

We’ve been operating our Epping aged care residence for almost forty years now. We’ve lasted the decades by holding on to a core truth: our residents deserve to live with dignity. We don’t believe in tiered treatment — everything we offer, from our tailored services to our accommodations, is the best it can be for every resident. No one who shares our roof is an afterthought, and neither are their needs.

Community is everything

We’re quite proud of the welcoming environment we’ve built here. You’ll settle in just fine.

Resident-centred care

We’ll work with you, your loved ones and your established medical team to make life as comfortable as possible.

How aged care costs work

We appreciate that finances are always a fraught topic, which is why we’ve made our payment options as clear and simple as possible. You can choose to pay a one-off, up-front payment or make an ongoing daily payment. Or, you can combine both in whatever way you please. Remember, the Government will fully refund your payment when you leave our care.

Frequently asked questions

Questions or concerns? Get in touch, and we’ll be happy to help.

How challenging are your speech pathology services?

We aim to make our speech therapies as accessible as possible by tailoring each session to the residents in attendance. If you’d prefer to have a private class, we can easily schedule regular therapy sessions at the most convenient time for you.

As for the difficulty levels of the session, it will also be tailored to your needs. We’ll account for the severity of your speech and swallowing disorders, how recently they affected you, and what you feel comfortable with on a session-by-session basis.

Do you offer pain medication for those with speech disorders?

Yes. Some of the disorders that cause speech and swallowing impediments also cause chronic pain. Rest assured that we can prescribe pain medication should you require it.

Is soft food for the elderly actually any good?

Yes, we assure you that it is. We won’t just blend the same food everyone else is eating; your new soft-food meal plan will consist of recipes designed to be soft and easy to swallow. And, of course, they’ll be seasoned to perfection; you haven’t lost your sense of taste.

How our speech pathologists tailor your therapy

Your therapy goes beyond your session time. Your speech therapist will help us refine how we care for you to ensure you’re always safe and comfortable and that you have all the support you need to progress.

  • We’ll develop a new meal plan and more manageable meal schedule
  • We can increase your session frequency to meet your goals
  • We will combine speech therapy with our other programs to suit your comorbidities
  • We can help you access assistive communication devices
  • We can schedule individual or group speech therapy sessions for you
  • We offer palliative speech pathology to help the terminally ill communicate and swallow comfortably
