Our approach to a safer home

Our responsibility extends to everyone at Oxa Care. We support residents to live safely, provide a safe workplace for our team, and maintain safe spaces and practices for families, visitors and contractors.

  • Residents are supported in a safe, comfortable environment that respects their dignity, needs and right to make their own decisions.
  • Staff are supported through workplace practices addressing both physical and psychological safety.
  • Families and visitors are supported by safe premises and established practices while at our home.
  • Contractors are expected to follow safe systems of work while carrying out services at Oxa Care.
  • Safety responsibilities are supported through clinical governance and reported to our governing body.

How we respond when risks change

We look at risk from two perspectives: what matters for each resident and what is happening across our home. This helps us identify concerns and take informed action.

01

Start with the individual

Before admission and again on entry, residents are assessed for risks including falls, skin integrity, nutrition, medication, continence and cognition.
02

Turn assessments into care

Assessment findings help shape each resident’s care plan. We discuss identified risks and care options with residents, supporting informed decisions that respect their preferences.
03

Respond when needs change

Care plans are updated when a resident’s needs change, rather than waiting for a fixed review cycle before adjusting their individual support.
04

Look for patterns across our home

Incident data and clinical audits help our team identify patterns across the home, giving us another way to recognise risks that may need attention.
05

Take action on what we find

Findings from audits and incidents can lead to corrective or preventive actions, which are recorded and tracked through to completion.
06

Keep quality visible

Oxa Care participates in the National Aged Care Quality Indicator Program and reports against all 14 mandatory quality indicators each quarter.

Training that supports our team

Good care depends on people having the right knowledge for their role. We verify qualifications and support our team through mandatory and competency-based training.

  • Registered nurses hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Enrolled nurses work alongside registered nurses as part of Oxa Care’s clinical care team.
  • Personal care workers hold recognised qualifications in individual support or ageing support.
  • Registration, qualification and required police checks are completed before staff commence work.
  • Mandatory training covers manual handling, infection control, incident response and aged care conduct.
  • Clinical staff complete additional competency-based training relevant to their individual roles.

Preparing for a safe move into Oxa Care

Every move begins with understanding the person. Before admission, we review each resident’s care needs, discuss what matters to them and confirm that Oxa Care can safely provide the support they need.

Start with eligibility

Residents need an Aged Care Assessment Service assessment before entering residential or respite care. If this is not yet complete, we can help point families in the right direction.

Understand the person’s needs

Before admission, our clinical team assesses the resident’s care needs to confirm that Oxa Care can safely provide the right level of support.

Plan care around the person

On entry, clinical assessments consider areas such as falls, medication, nutrition and cognition, helping shape an individualised care plan.

Make the move feel welcoming

Residents and families receive a welcome pack, Resident Handbook and care plan, helping them understand what to expect as they settle into Oxa Care.

Accountability you can verify

You don’t have to rely on what we say about our care. Oxa Care’s registration, compliance status and quality performance can be checked through Australian Government sources.
