Accommodation options for aged care can vary depending on the person’s care needs, preferences, eligibility, and financial situation.

Those who wish to remain in their own home may opt for home care, where services can include help with everyday tasks, transportation, and nursing care. Retirement villages are another option for seniors who are active and social, as this allows them to live independently within a retirement community.

Residential aged care homes (such as Oxa Care) provide ongoing help for seniors requiring a higher level of care and assistance with daily activities. They have a team of care staff, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure each resident receives the necessary care. Many facilities also offer dementia support, palliative care, and respite care.

Do you have any aged care accommodation vacancies?

Yes we have room vacancies for residential care, respite care, and emergency placements. Please get in touch with our team, who will be able to take you through the next steps.

Do you offer rooms for married couples?

Yes, our spacious rooms can accommodate married couples - reach out to our friendly team to enquire about availability.

How much do most nursing homes cost a month?

Many aged care homes charge a comparable rate, as fees are capped by industry regulations. The difference then lies in the facility, care staff, inclusions, and services. At Oxa Care, we aim to deliver more value and a better experience for our residents and their families at a similar cost to other aged care homes.

These two payment options determine how accommodation fees are structured and paid.

DAP (Daily Accommodation Payment) is a rental-style payment paid daily to the aged care facility and does not require an upfront lump sum payment. The amount of DAP is calculated based on the interest rate set by the Australian government and the RAD amount divided by the number of days in the year.

RAD (Refundable Accommodation Deposit) is a lump-sum deposit paid upfront to the aged care facility. The resident can pay the full RAD upfront, or they can opt for a combination of a lump sum and a DAP, which is the interest on any unpaid portion of the RAD. The RAD is refunded to the resident or their estate when they leave the aged care facility.

What is the difference between home care and residential aged care?

The key difference between home care and residential aged care is that home care services are provided in the individual’s home, whereas residential care services are provided in a communal care facility. In residential care, clients typically require a higher level of support and may have more complex care needs. It’s a suitable option for those who are no longer able to live independently due to health or mobility issues.

While both options provide services tailored to the individual's care needs, aged care homes typically offer a higher level of care and support, including accommodation, meals, nursing care, social activities, and medical services.

Who is eligible for residential aged care?

Eligibility for residential aged care is determined through an Aged Care Assessment, which assesses an individual's care needs and placement suitability. You generally need to meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be aged 65 or older
  • Have Australian citizenship or permanent residency
  • Undergo a care needs assessment to determine whether you need the level of care provided in an aged care facility
  • Have the capacity to pay or contribute (depending on your financial situation)
  • Be living in Australia when you apply for residential aged care services

There are some exemptions that may apply - contact your local aged care assessment team who will be able to help.

I am ready to move in - do you have availability?

We’re so pleased to hear that you have chosen Oxa Care for your new home. Please contact our friendly team who will be able to advise you on vacancies and next steps.

How can prospective residents apply?

First, our facility manager will invite you to an interview and complete a pre-admission questionnaire. This helps clarify financial and other considerations that impact the admission. We can provide you or your family member with a copy after completion. We’ll also give you an Application for Admission which is a more comprehensive document that provides us with all details we need before offering you a place at Oxa Care. Please complete and return as soon as possible.

What do you mean by a “resident-centred care” approach?

Our resident-centred care philosophy means that we identify and fulfil the needs of every resident and treat them with compassion, dignity, and respect at all times.

We achieve this by conducting an in-depth assessment with the resident, before developing a custom, personalised care plan. We don’t use templates or a one-size-fits-all solution; instead, we spend time with each resident and their family to truly understand their likes, dislikes, and preferences so we can tailor-make a program just for them.

How does your pricing compare to other residential aged care homes in Melbourne?

At Oxa, we pride ourselves on delivering significantly more value and a better residential experience at a comparable price. Our premium services don’t come with a premium price tag; instead, our costs are on par with industry averages, which means you get extra benefits and high-quality services at a comparable rate to other residential aged care homes in Melbourne.

We offer three payment types to suit different financial needs and our pricing is negotiable. Our team is happy to discuss pricing with you to find the best option for you or your loved one.
